Brett Favre had to spend the early part of his adult life making a name for himself and had to slog. He defied the odds to succeed in high school and college and then later on in the National Football League (NFL). But the former Green Bay Packers quarterback has been diagnosed with a serious medical issue.

What did Brett Favre have to say during his testimony?

During his testimony this week in front of a congressional hearing on federal welfare, Favre revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

"Sadly, I also lost my investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others. As I’m sure you’ll understand, while it’s too late for me—I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s—this is also a cause dear to my heart,” Favre said.

It is known that Parkinson's disease is much more likely to develop in football players similar to CTE and other diseases diagnosed later in life. As per the National Institute on Aging, the symptoms include unintended or uncontrolled movements, "unintended or uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness and difficulty with balance and coordination."

People who are diagnosed with Parkinson's eventually have trouble with walking, talking and also their memory. As per the NHS, Parkinson's is not a fatal disease but it certainly can increase the chances of death.

2022 slip given new context after being diagnosed with Parkinson

In 2022, there was a reporter who reported that Brett Favre slipped during an event at Moe's Tavern in Mobile, Alabama. The fall was claimed to be an innocent mistake due to missing a step. Favre slipped backwards while stepping down from the stage and blamed the Tennessee Titans helmet for it.

Favre played for 20 seasons in the NFL and primarily with Green Bay Packers in which he had 321 consecutive starts from 1992 to 2010. He was also the first quarterback in sports history to register 70,000 yards, 10,000 passes, 6,000 completions, 500 touchdowns and won against all the other 32 teams.
