ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 Team of the Tournament: The top six run-scorers and top three wicket-takers made it into the playing XI of the tournament.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on February 12 (Monday) released the Under-19 World Cup 2024 Team of the Tournament. Four Indians, three Australians, two South Africans, and one West Indies and Pakistan player each have been named in the team along with a Scotland player as the 12th man.
The four Indians in the team are skipper Uday Saharan, Musheer Khan, Sachin Dhas, and Saumy Pandey. Saharan was the top run-scorer of the tournament with 397 runs from seven games. He scored a match-winning 81 in the thrilling semi-final run chase against South Africa. Musheer was second on the list with 360 runs. He was the only batter with two centuries in the tournament.
Dhas was the fifth-highest run-scorer with 303 runs. His trike rate of 116.54 stood out of the lot. He scored a game-changing 96 in the semifinal. Left-arm spinner Pandey picked up 18 wickets at an average of 10.28 including three four-wicket hauls.
Hugh Weibgen who led Australia to a comprehensive 79-run in the final against India has been named the captain of the team. Weibgen was the fourth-highest run-scorer with 304 runs from seven games. The other two Australians are opener Harry Dixon and pacer Callum Vidler. Dixon was slightly ahead of Weibgen with 309 runs. Vidler finished the tournament as Australia's highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets at an average of 11.71 including two four-fers.
The South African left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka who was named 'Player of the tournament' with 21 wickets to his name including three fifers is in the side as well. The other South African player is batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius. Ubaid Shah who had 18 wickets from six games is Pakistan's only player in the team. West Indies' Nathan Edwards who scored 255 runs from 11 games found a place as well.
The 12th man Scotland's Jamie Dunk was eighth on the list of run-scorers in the tournament. He scored 263 runs from just four games including three half-centuries.
