Hope attacks spinners

Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bowl first. Alick Athanaze and Shai Hope got West Indies off to a decent start. Lizzad Williams broke the partnership in the sixth over. Athanaze fell after scoring 28 runs from 21 balls. Hope took on Markram and hit him for two massive sixes in the next over. Kwena Maphaka was brought back into the attack and was hit for one six each by Nicholas Pooran and Hope. In his first over, Patrick Kruger ended Hope's stay at the crease. He scored 41 runs from 22 balls including two fours and four sixes.

Skipper leads fightback

In the middle overs, West Indies batters struggled. Kruger dismissed Roston Chase for a single-digit score. Williams came back into the attack and got the prized wicket of Pooran. The wicketkeeper-batter contributed with a run-a-ball 19. Sherfane Rutherford and Rovman Powell pushed the scoring rate with big shots. Skipper Powell hit three sixes in his 22-ball 35 before falling to Williams in the 18th over. In the final over, Rutherford hit a boundary before losing his wicket to Ottneil Baartman. Rutherford scored 29 runs from 18 balls. Romario Shepherd finished the innings with a six as West Indies posted 179/6 on the board.

In the fourth over, Hendricks went ballistic and hit two sixes and as many fours in Chase's 23-run over. Shamar Joseph got the breakthrough in form of Rickleton. He scored 20 runs from 13 balls. In the next over, Shepherd got rid of Hendricks who scored 44 runs off just 18 deliveries. Markram was looking to attack too but Shepherd trapped him in front of the stumps.
