PCB to change venue for Pakistan vs England Test matches amid Champions Trophy 2025 preparations: Check details
AFG vs NZ: Rain washes out historic One-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand in Greater Noida without a single ball being bowled
The one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand held at the Greater Noida Sports Complex was abandoned without a single ball being bowled.
The historic one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand which was held at the Greater Noida Sports Complex was abandoned without a single ball being bowled as persistent rain did not allow the game to proceed in any of the five days. The poor drainage system and the lack of resources also caught the eye during this period as even the ground staff failed to cover the entire ground to prevent it from the heavy downpour. However, when playing was not even possible on Day 5, the officials decided to call the match off on September 13 morning.
This is the first instance in 26 years where a Test match had been abandoned without the toss and ball being bowled. The last time something like this happened during a cricket match, it was back in 1998 during the India vs New Zealand clash in Carisbrook, Dunedin.
ICC might give demerit points
The Noida Stadium will be reviewed by the referee like it is done after the match and there are chance that the ICC referee may give demerit points to both the pitch and the ground. If it gives 3 for the pitch and 3 for the ground to Noida stadium. It will be declared unfit with 6 points and it will be suffering a suspension. There are chances that the Referee may also mention about the basic facilities in its reports.
However, as the venue did not even see a single ball being delivered throught out the five days, there is a very unlikely chance of it being rated unfit and a similar thing might also come into consideration for the outfield. The referee also considers the amount of rain that the game venue witnessed which could have led to those conditions. So it might get categorised as unsatisfactory.
