World Record Alert: Not 1, not 2, not 3, Australia star grabs 8 catches in an innings to take cricketing world by storm
Alex Carey scripted history during Marsh Cup match by grabbing eight catch in an innings. With this Carey emulated the World Record of most catches taken by a wicketkeeper in a List A game.
Australian cricketer Alex Carey made history by matching the world record for the most catches by a wicketkeeper in a List A match. Representing South Australia, Carey seized eight catches during the Marsh Cup clash against Queensland at Adelaide's Karen Rolton Oval. This achievement positions him as only the third wicketkeeper to accomplish this feat in List A cricket.
Carey is presently not included in the Australian limited-overs squad, having replaced by Josh Inglis. The 32-year-old showcased outstanding skills behind the stumps in the recent Redbacks match.
Alex Carey scripts World Record
Carey equaled the world record by catching Ben McDermott, Matt Renshaw, Marnus Labuschagne, Jack Clayton, Jack Wildermuth, Dylan Mclachlan, and Gurinder Sandhu. Meanwhile, speedster Jordan Buckingham achieved his career-best figures of 6/41 in his 10 overs, causing a stir as the Bulls were dismissed for a mere 218 runs.
Carey Joins Elite Company with Eight Catches
Alex Carey etched his name into List A history by taking eight catches in a single match, joining only Derek Taylor (1982) and James Pipe (2021) as the only wicket-keepers to achieve this feat.
South Australia Triumphs Despite Setback: South Australia secured their first win of the season thanks to half-centuries from Thomas Kelly and Nathan McSweeney. Although initially hindered by the absence of injured opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, they chased down the target with five wickets remaining.
Fraser-McGurk's Travel Woes: Despite being called up for Australia's T20I against West Indies, Fraser-McGurk missed the match due to a back injury sustained during a strenuous 5,500km journey in 36 hours. Although he recovered enough to bat, South Australia opted to hold him back as they comfortably chased down the target.
Carey's acrobatics steal the show
Alex Carey turned heads with his dazzling display behind the stumps, making the improbable seem routine. The highlight was a breathtaking dive down the leg-side, snatching the bails from Jack Wildermuth's first ball with his outstretched left glove.
Not content with one stunner, Carey snagged a running grab towards fine leg, sending Bulls skipper Marnus Labuschagne back to the pavilion for 74.
Thornton's fiery spell
Amidst Carey's heroics, Henry Thornton unleashed a scorching bowling performance, claiming 2-20 in 10 overs. He started on fire, taking 2-7 in his first six overs, repeatedly troubling Labuschagne with his deceptive swing bowling. Though unfortunate to miss a caught-and-bowled chance early on, Thornton maintained the pressure, contributing significantly to the victory.
