Amit Mishra drops massive truth bomb on Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir's IPL fight, says 'It was him who ended the feud'
Former cricketer Amit Mishra revealed who ended the feud when Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir engaged in a big fight during an IPL match in 2023.
Ex-India's star spinner Amit Mishra dropped a truth bomb about the altercation between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He revealed that it was Gambhir who eventually ended the feud between the two in the last edition of the tournament.
Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli were involved in a heated exchange during the IPL 2023. The incident occurred during a match between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The two players had a verbal confrontation, which escalated into a significant dispute. The conflict began when Virat Kohli had a verbal spat with Naveen-ul-Haq during the game. This altercation intensified, leading to a major confrontation. The tension between Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq continued even after the game, with the duo engaging in another heated exchange during the post-match handshakes.
Gautam Gambhir, the then mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), intervened to support his teammate when Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq were engaged in their altercation. This led to a fierce exchange between Gambhir and Kohli, escalating tensions as members from both teams got involved.
However, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli reconciled, putting an end to the feud. The two shared a heartfelt hug during the match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders, which silenced all discussions about their previous conflict.
Big revelation on Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir's IPL fight
A year later, Amit Mishra has now made a big revelation about the incident. He mentioned that it was Gautam Gambhir who approached Virat Kohli, and ended the feud. Mishra also remarked that it should have been Kohli who apologized. Speaking on the podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, he said:
"I saw a good thing about Gautam. Virat Kohli didn't go towards him, Gautam went towards him. He went and asked 'How are you, how's your family.' So it was Gautam who ended the feud and not Kohli," Amit said.
"So Gautam showed his big heart at that time. It should have been Kohli who should have gone and ended the feud. He should have gone and said 'Gauti bhai, let's end this,'" he added.
Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the India National Cricket Team, succeeding Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended after the T20 World Cup 2024. The news, which had been speculated for some time, was confirmed when Jay Shah made an official announcement. Virat Kohli will now play under Gautam Gambhir's leadership, and with both being fierce competitors, the Indian team is expected to become one of the toughest teams to play against. Gambhir will take charge of the team starting with the tour of Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue will travel to the island nation for three ODIs and three T20Is later this month, marking the beginning of a new era in Indian cricket.
