Mumbai Indians pacer wreaks havoc with 8-wicket haul to outshine India B captain’s unbeaten 157, achieves massive Duleep Trophy feat
Duleep Trophy 2024: Made his debut for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj took eight wickets to bowl out India B for 322.
Mumbai Indians pacer Anshul Kamboj who made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2024 edition bagged an eight-wicket haul for India B against India C. In the second round of Duleep Trophy 2024, India B were bowled out for 332 despite skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran’s unbeaten 157 on Day 4 in Anantapur.
Kamboj’s eight wickets for 69 runs is the fifth-highest bowling figures in Duleep Trophy history. Also, it is the second best bowling figures for a pacer in Duleep Trophy. The top spot belongs to Debasis Mohanty who took 10 wickets for East Zone against South Zone in 2001. The South Zone team had the likes of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman.
India B's overnight score was 309 for seven wickets. Easwaran was unbeaten on 143. In the first session, Rahul Chahar was the first to fall. He got bowled by Jamboj in the 102nd over. Chahar scored 18 runs from 34 balls. A few overs later, he did not let half-centurion of previous game Navdeep Saini string a partnership with Easwaran. Saini got bowled for a 10-ball duck.
Mukesh Kumar hit a boundary before he lost his wicket in the 10th over. On the other end, Easwaran carried his bat. The Dehradun-born opener scored 157 runs from 286 balls including 14 fours and a six. India C had 193-run lead in the bag after India B were bowled out for 332.
Kamoj’s five scalps on Day 3
Earlier, on Day 3, Kamboj's other five scalps were opener N Jagadeeshan who scored 70 runs from 137 balls in the 129-run partnership. Then, the 23-year-old pacer trapped Musheer Khan in front of the stumps. Musheer's older brother Sarfarz Khan was dismissed lbw as well. Rinku Singh and Nitish Reddy fell for single-digit scores as well. Rinku edged it to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan whereas Reddy got bowled. Pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak and Mayank Markande bagged the remaining wickets.
Kamboj’s first-class record
The Haryana pacer had played 14 first-class games before the match against India B including 27 wickets. His career-best bowling figures before the eight-wicket haul was three wickets for 24 runs.
