The high-flying Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) got off a rocky start in their chase against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL 2024 on May 19. Set a target of 215 runs, their in-form batter Travis Head, who has been a nightmare for opposition bowling attacks throughout the season, fell victim to a brilliant delivery by Arshdeep Singh in the first ball of their innings. Playing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Head was completely deceived by Arshdeep's well-directed length delivery. The ball held its line, catching the batsman flat-footed. Head's delayed shot attempt wasn't enough as the ball snuck under his bat and dislodged the off-stump. This early dismissal dealt a significant blow to SRH's chase and handed the early momentum to the Punjab Kings bowlers.

However, after Head's dismissal Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi steadied SRH's boat before getting dismissed. While Abhishek scored a blistering 28-ball 66, Tripathi notched a quickfire 18-ball 33 to take SRH's scoreboard to 129/3 after 10.1 overs. Post that runs kept coming for SRH as they ended up winning the match by four wickets.

Opener Prabhsimran Singh led the charge with a well-compiled 71 runs, his second fifty of the season. He shared a crucial 97-run partnership with Atharva Taide (46) that provided a solid foundation for the Punjab Kings' innings. South African batsman Rilee Rossouw chipped in with a quickfire 49 runs from just 24 deliveries. T Natarajan, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, and Pat Cummins each picked up a wicket for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who had already secured their playoff spot. While the Punjab Kings were eliminated from playoff contention earlier, they aimed to end the season on a high note with this competitive total of 214/5.
