Mitchell Marsh-led Australian cricket team defeated Aqib Ilyas' Oman by a margin of 39 runs in match 10 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which is being played at the Kensington Oval, on June 6 (Thursday). A good start for Australia to the mega tournament as they get past the tough conditions of the Barbados pitch.

Aussie top order struggles early on

Oman bowlers started well and rattled the Aussies' top order completely and grabbed three wickets by the score of 50. Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Glenn Maxwell departed on low scores and gave a big scare to the former champions early on.

Warner and Stoinis save the day

Australia were reduced to 63/3 by the end of the 12th over and 80/3 by the 14th over. However, Stoinis and Warner helped the Aussies score 84 runs in the final six overs and reach a really good total from a point where even 120 seemed a little far. Warner got out after scoring crucial 56 runs but Stoinis remained unbeaten on 67 runs off just 36 balls. They helped Australia post a total of 164/5.

Oman's fight back in vain

Oman tried to fight back and put on a good performance with both bat and ball. They scored 125/9 against a strong Aussie bowling attack but eventually fell short by 39 runs. It was another great performance from them which went in vain.

Marcus Stoinis leads from the front

Marcus Stoinis put on a great show with both bat and ball. He first smashed a game-changing 67-run knock off just 36 balls and later also picked up three big wickets and rattled Oman's middle order. He even won the Player of the Match award for his all-round heroics.

“Nice start, we got the win and boys spent some time in the middle and everyone got to bowl. I was trying to soak up the conditions and keep it simple. Couple kept low and couple were spinning for the spinners. It seemed like swing wasn't available, and I was trying to get some bounce with cross-seam deliveries,” said Stoinis in the post-match presentation.
