The star all-rounder Axar Patel's performance in the Final of the T20 World Cup 2024. He revealed the conversation with Rohit Sharma after Heinrich Klaasen's assault.
Axar Patel's contribution as an all-rounder was one of the crucial players to India’s title triumph. He played a match-winning 47-run knock in the final against South Africa after the Men in Blue lost early wickets. He was also successful with the ball throughout the entire campaign. Be it bowling in the powerplay, blocking crucial runs, breaking key partnerships in middle overs, or playing a vital role as a batter, he convincingly did it all, earning skipper Rohit Sharma’s trust in each game. He proved to be a valuable asset for the side, with his all-round abilities providing much-needed batting depth to the team and helping India end the 11-year trophy drought.
The star all-rounder Axar Patel's vital knock of 47 was one of the highlights in the final against South Africa. However, his most memorable day could have been easily spoiled after Heinrich Klaasen smashed him for 24 runs in an over, almost winning the game for his team. Axar conceded 49 runs in his four overs, proving costly on the big day.
Axar reveals Rohit's message
Axar, while talking to Cricbuzz, revealed the experience from the final match, where he got smashed for 24 runs in an over. The 30-year-old revealed how the skipper helped him regain his confidence after the assault.
"In the final, when Heinrich Klaasen was aggressive against me, Rohit approached me and reassured me, saying, it’s alright. You bowled your best. If he hits a good shot, there’s not much you can do. Just focus on the next ball. His support and encouragement boosted my confidence. After I completed the over, he tapped my shoulder and said, well done, don’t worry. Such conversations from your captain lift you and keep you motivated on the field. Rohit excels at providing that kind of support," said Axar.
Axar to make his return with Sri Lanka tour
BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour and Axar Patel has sealed his spot in both T20I and ODI teams. He would have extra responsibilities with him in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja, who is not part of the ODI setup for the tour and announced his retirement from T20Is.
