Babar Azam becomes second batter to reach this historic milestone after Virat Kohli ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Pakistan cricket team faced a 7-wicket loss in the fourth T20I of the four-match series which was played at the Kennington Oval in London, on May 30 (Thursday). However, despite failing to save the series, the Pakistan captain created a huge record as he became the second batter in history after Virat Kohli to complete 4000 T20I runs. This is a massive feat ahead of the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be held in the United States and West Indies, from June 2.

Babar Azam completes 4000 runs in T20Is

Babar Azam was 13 runs short of the milestone prior to the fourth T20I against England and he reached there comfortably. However, he couldn't turn his knock big enough and got out after scoring just 36 runs off 22 balls on a delivery from Jofra Archer. He reached this milestone in 112 innings while it only took Kohli 107. Azam also surpassed Rohit Sharma during this series as he became the second-highest run-scorer in T20I history.

The Pakistan captain is scoring runs consistently and this is good news for Pakistan ahead of the marquee event. However, he has been unable to turn these knocks big, and with an underperforming middle order, the responsibility gets bigger on the Pakistan batting maestro.

Babar Azam on series loss against England

The Men in Green batting first got all out on a low score of 157 runs despite a good start from Babar, Mohammad Rizwan, and Usman Khan. During the second inning, England managed to chase it down in just 15.3 overs. Babar Azam blamed their middle order for the loss in the final T20I and wished they do not repeat this kind of performance in the mega tournament.

“First six overs, we played very well. After that, the momentum shifted as wickets fell. Our middle-order needs to step up. You need 2-3 good overs in the middle and in the death as well. England's bowling was very good. Hopefully, we don't do this in the World Cup. We made a couple of changes due to the injuries. Our powerplay was good. We have played good cricket in patches,” said Babar Azam in the post-match presentation.
