The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on May 13 invited applications for the position of head coach of the senior men's team. The last date for submission of applications is May 27. The applicants should submit their names by 6 PM IST.

“The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates,” the BCCI said in a release.

Here are the minimum requirements for the head coach position

  • The applicant should have played 30 Tests or 50 ODIs; or

  • The applicant is of a full-member Test-playing nation. He should have represented his side for at least two years; or

  • The applicant should have been head coach of an Associate member nation/Indian Premier League (IPL) team or an international T20 league/First-class team/national A teams, for a minimum period of three years; or

  • The applicant should have BCCI Level 3 Certification or equivalent. Also, the applicant should be below 60 years of age.

Long-term candidate

The BCCI are looking for a long-term candidate considering the busy calendar of the team in the next few years with Champions Trophy 2025, World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final and others. The head coach will have a tenure of three and a half years. The tenure will start on July 1, 2024 and end on December 31, 2027.

Dravid’s tenure ending after T20 World Cup

The current Indian head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure will end after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 and he won't get an automatic extension. He had a two-year contract but was given an extension along with the support staff after the ODI World Cup 2023.

"Rahul's tenure is only up to June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so. We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said earlier this month.
