Big Blow to IPL teams as overseas players set to miss playoffs, will leave on this date

Indian Premier League franchises will face major blows as England players will be returning back before the IPL playoffs to compete against Pakistan.

Indian Premier League franchises like Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings will face major blows as some of their overseas players will be leaving before the IPL playoffs. England announced their preliminary squad for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 and the same team will face Pakistan in a bilateral series ahead of the mega tournament. ECB has stated that their World Cup-bound players who are currently competing in IPL will return before May 22 to take part in the PAK series.

 

ECB to call back players from IPL 2024

 

England Cricket Board (ECB) has asked their players in India to return before the home series against Pakistan. This will be the final bilateral clash for the Jos Buttler-https://thesportstak.com/led team before the T20 World Cup.

“This squad will also take on Pakistan men in the preceding four-match Vitality IT20 series, which gets underway next month in Leeds. Selected players, currently playing in the Indian Premier League, will return in time for the series against Pakistan, which gets underway at Headingley on Wednesday 22 May 2024. The World Cup squad will fly to the Caribbean on 31 May ahead of England’s opening group match against Scotland at the Kensington Oval, Barbados, on Wednesday 4 June,” ECB stated in their official release.


Players like Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Phil Salt, Sam Curran, Jonny Bairstow, Will Jacks, and Reece Topley are playing for their respective IPL teams and some of them will potentially qualify for the playoffs but won't be able to play in them as they will be flying back home for national duty. They are set to go back before May 22 and IPL playoffs will start from May 21.
