Big blow to Sanju Samson after RR's first defeat in IPL 2024, slapped with hefty fine for this reason
Sanju Samson has been fined for maintaining slow over rate during Rajasthan Royals versus Gujarat Titans' Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match.
Gujarat Titans (GT) finally snapped Rajasthan Royals (RR) winning streak of four matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Sanju Samson's RR suffered a three-wicket defeat at the hands of GT at the Sawai ManSingh stadium on April 10. RR posted 196 runs on the board and the chase seemed challenging for the Titans. However, they staged a remarkable comeback in the final five overs. They needed a daunting 73 runs from the last 30 balls, but managed to chase it down successfully. Despite the loss, the Rajasthan Royals remain at the top of the points table, ahead of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Not just RR lost the match, but in a double whammy their captain Sanju Samson has been slapped with a hefty fine for maintaining slow over rate during the clash against GT.
"Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on April 10," a release from the IPL stated.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Samson was fined ₹12 lakhs,” IPL's statement added.

Rajasthan put up a strong fight with fiery half-centuries from Riyan Parag (76 runs) and captain Sanju Samson (68 not out), reaching a commanding total of 196 runs for 3 wickets. Gujarat Titans weren't going down without a fight either. Opener Shubman Gill led the chase with a brilliant 72 runs. However, the real turning point came in the final stages. A crucial partnership between Rahul Tewatia (22 runs off 11 balls) and Rashid Khan (24 runs off 11 balls) sealed the victory for Gujarat on the very last ball of the match. This thrilling win marked Gujarat's third victory in the IPL 2024 season. Had Rajasthan emerged victorious, they would have become the first team in IPL history to win five consecutive matches at the start of the tournament.
GT, in a total of six matches, have so far won three lost as many contests to be placed sixth in the IPL 2024's points table. On the other hand, RR are unaffected on top of the standings with four wins and one defeat in a total of five matches.
GT will next lock horns with Delhi Capitals on Delhi Capitals on April 17 while RR will face Punjab Kings on April 13
