Big blow to Team India! Spinner who took 2 wickets vs Pakistan ruled out of Asia Cup 2024, Gujarat Giants bowler named replacement

Women's T20 Asia Cup 2024: Ahead of the clash against United Arab Emirates, Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the tournament due to a fractured finger in left hand.

Team India led by Harmanpreet Kaur has suffered a huge blow in the ongoing Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024. Left-arm spinner Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the tournament with a due to a fractured finger. 
 

Shreyanka suffered the injury during India's campaign opener against Pakistan on July 19. She got injured while attempting to take a catch. In doing so, she fractured the fourth finger of her left hand. 
 

However, she was able to bowl her fourth over. She bagged a couple of wickets including that of Aliya Riaz. The right-arm off-spinner was economical as well conceded 14 runs from 3.2 overs. She helped India bowl out Pakistan for a non-threatening 108 in 19.2 overs. The target was chased down with 35 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand as openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana scored in 40s.
 

This is not the first time, Shreyanka has suffered an injury on her left hand. She had a hairline fracture during Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024. She made a comeback in the tournament and bagged a four-wicket haul in the final for Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Meg Lanning's Delhi Capitals (DC). She also won the purple cap.

Shreyanka’s replacement 

Left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar has been announced as her replacement. The 26-year-old Shimla-born spinner has received her maiden callup. She was impressive in WPL 2024 for Gujarat Giants. She took 10 wickets in eight games, most for her franchise in the season. The uncapped bowler was among the travelling reserves named for the tournament. Earlier, she was picked in the India A squad for the upcoming tour of Australia next month.

India’s next clash

India who are on the top of the Group A points table will take on United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their next match on July 21 at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla. It will be interesting to see if Harmanpreet hands the young spinner Tanuja her debut despite having left-arm spinner Radha Yadav in the team.
 

The last time India took on UAE was in 2022 edition of Asia Cup. In the only T20I clash between the two sides, India won by 104 runs.
