New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on July 17 confirmed the full schedule for their 2024-25 home season. New Zealand are set to host England for two-Test series followed by a three-T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka.  However, right after the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy which is scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan, Kiwis will take on Pakistan again on home turf in five-T20I series followed by three-ODI series.

While the five-T20I series will be played in March, the ODI series will go on till the first week of April 2025. The limited-overs series at home is set to clash with Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will seek confirmation on whether the players putting their name for the mega auction will be available for the entirety of the season. In the IPL 2024 season, New Zealand toured Pakistan for a five-T20I series in the latter half of April. However, players like Kane Williamson, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell and others.

New Zealand’s ODI captain yet to be decided

Meanwhile, NZC is yet to announce New Zealand’s captain in limited-overs format after Williamson relinquished the leadership role following early exit from T20 World Cup 2024. Tom Latham was expected to be the next in line but head coach Gary Stead said that he is one of the options being considered.

"We're not at the stage of confirming it yet, so I don't want to speculate whether Tom will be or not," Stead said.

"But he's certainly one guy that will be in discussions around that role. The important thing is whoever is in place, we want in place for two to three years or so, leading to that next [ODI] World Cup. That will be one of the important decision-making factors that we discuss."

However, Latham who has led New Zealand to 28 wins from 44 ODIs, expressed the desire to take up the role months ahead of Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.

"It would obviously be a real honour," he said. "For me, it's always been about trying to put the team first as best as possible, and I'm sure they'll have those discussions around what they want from a team point of view. Certainly, if I get the opportunity to do that, it would be really special."
