Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli's dynamic on the cricket field has been well chronicled, especially during their encounters when the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Recently, as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gambhir reconciled with Kohli during on the IPL matches, suggesting their past differences have been resolved and they have buried their hatchet.

Notably, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and mentorship of Gambhir, KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to claim their third IPL championship. Following this victory, Gambhir has become a leading candidate to succeed Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team after the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir on his relationship with Virat Kohli

Recently during a conversation with Sportskeeda, Gautam Gambhir talked about his relationship with Virat Kohli and clearly stated that it is something this country does not need to know.

“The perception is far away from the reality. My relation with Virat Kohli is something this country doesn’t need to know. He has as much right as I do to express himself and help our respective teams win. Our relation is not to give masala to public,” Gambhir told Sportskeeda.

The history of on-field tensions between Gambhir and Kohli is well-known, yet it appears they have put their past differences behind them. The two were spotted embracing after a match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and a video of their animated conversation quickly spread across social media.

Meanwhile, Gambhir has become a leading contender to take over from Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, following his successful stint as mentor where Kolkata Knight Riders secured the IPL 2024 title. KKR delivered a stellar performance in the final, decisively beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets.

Rahul Dravid's time as head coach of the Indian cricket team is coming to a close. His tenure will officially end after the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. However, according to media reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) isn't rushing to find his replacement. This is likely because the team's current focus is entirely on winning the World Cup. With the competition underway, the players and coaching staff are understandably preoccupied with delivering a strong performance. The BCCI is probably waiting until after the dust settles on the World Cup before they begin the official search for Dravid's successor.
