Ahead of IPL 2024, Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) new recruit Sameer Rizvi, hit peak form, clobbering a fiery century in a CK Nayudu Trophy match in Kanpur on February 25.

During the U-23 tournament's quarter-final clash between Uttar Pradesh and Saurashtra, Rizvi demonstrated his batting prowess by amassing 134 runs off 117 deliveries on the first day. After Saurashtra elected to bowl first, Uttar Pradesh took advantage of their home ground, aggressively targeting the visiting bowlers. Rizvi was the highlight of the day, ending unbeaten with 134 runs at the close of Day 1 at the Green Park Stadium.

Rizvi's dynamic century propelled Uttar Pradesh to a commanding 426 for 5 by the end of Day 1. As the captain of Uttar Pradesh, Rizvi aims to continue leading his team effectively, aiming for a spot in the semi-finals when he returns to bat on Day 2 alongside Siddharth Yadav. The standout feature of Rizvi's innings was his impressive strike rate of 114.53, including a tally of 14 boundaries and 6 sixes. Chennai Super Kings expressed their delight over Rizvi's performance in the Under-23 tournament with a special message, celebrating his remarkable hundred.

During the IPL 2024 auctions in December, the 20-year-old right-handed batsman, Rizvi, became the center of attention for all the right reasons. The all-rounder sparked intense competition among teams eager to add him to their squad. Starting with a base price of Rs 20 lakh, Rizvi became the focal point of a fierce bidding battle between Gujarat Titans and CSK. The competition drove his price up to a staggering Rs 8.40 crore, establishing him as the priciest uncapped Indian player of the 2024 auction.

Sameer Rizvi hit the quickest century in the first season of the UP T20 League. With an impressive batting average of 49.16 and a strike rate of 134.70 in domestic T20 cricket, fans are keenly anticipating how Rizvi's ability to finish matches will flourish with MS Dhoni leading him at CSK.

The reigning champions, CSK, are set to face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of the tournament at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22.
