After warming the benches for the first two Tests, Harry Brook’s replacement Dan Lawrence has left England’s Test squad to rejoin Desert Vipers in the ongoing ILT20 2024.

Ben Stokes-led England are currently in England during the break between the second and third Test. Lawrence has been permitted to play two games for the ILT20 franchise before the squad heads back to India for the third Test in Rajkot.

Lawrence was a last-minute addition to England’s Test squad as Brook pulled out of the tour. Lawrence was the Desert Vipers' wildcard signing. He made just one appearance for the franchise before heading to India.

He will feature in Desert Vipers' last two league matches. Desert Vipers' next match is on February 9 against Dubai Capitals. Their last league match is against Sharjah Warriors on February 11.

"We are delighted to welcome Dan back to the Vipers and it is something that makes perfect sense for everyone," Tom Moody, Desert Vipers director of cricket, said. "The Vipers are getting a top-class player, someone who can affect the game with bat and ball who has already been part of the Vipers set-up, and someone who is craving match action.

"For his part, Dan is getting the opportunity for some time in the middle and, when he returns to the England fold, they will have a player who will have benefited from playing after time on the sidelines during the ongoing Test series.

"We are extremely grateful to the England team for allowing Dan to rejoin us and grateful, too, for Dan's willingness to jump at the opportunity.”

The 26-year-old on his debut for Desert Vipers scored 19 runs from 17 balls. With the ball, he was economical conceding just 12 runs from two overs and taking the wicket of Sam Hain.

"In his short time with us at the start of the tournament, Dan was a terrific, positive influence both on and off the field and we look forward to him playing a part in pushing us towards the play-offs as the regular season draws to a close," he added.

Desert Vipers are currently struggling to book their playoff spot. The Colin Munro-led side is in the fifth position with three five losses from eight games and a slightly better net run rate (NRR) than Dubai Capitals.
