WATCH: Dejected Rohit Sharma gets emotional in dressing room after fifth consecutive low score in IPL 2024
MI vs SRH: Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma's struggle continued as he got out for a single-digit score to Pat Cummins at Wankhede Stadium.
Former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma got emotional in the dressing room after losing his wicket to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins in the run chase at Wankhede Stadium on May 6. Rohit registered fifth consecutive loss in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He was spotted dejected in the dressing room as MI suffered a batting collapse in the powerplay overs.
Rohit got off the mark with a boundary towards mid-on in the first over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. In the fourth over of the innings bowled by Cummins, Rohit tried to play a flick behind square but could only manage a leading edge. The ball went up and SRH wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen took the catch comfortably. He scored just four runs from five deliveries.
Rohit’s troubling form
Rohit has not been in the best of forms of late. He has registered scores of 6, 8, 4, 11 and 4 in the last five games. His best performance of the season came against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last month but it went in vain. The opener scored an unbeaten 105 against the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side at home. In the previous game, he played as an impact player and scored 11 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Rohit’s form is a concern ahead of T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. Apart from the unbeaten century, he has not scored another fifty-plus score in the season so far. He has scored 330 runs from 12 games at an average of 30. His strike rate is 152.78.
Surya’s ton helps MI romp over SRH
Despite the top-order collapse, MI won the game by seven wickets with 16 balls to spare as Suryakumar Yadav hit his second IPL century. The unorthodox batter hit six sixes and 12 fours in his unbeaten 51-ball 102. He shared an unbeaten 143-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Tilak Varma who scored 37 runs from 32 balls. This is MI's fourth win from 12 games. It helped them move one spot up from the bottom of the points table.
