Jake Fraser-McGurk comes in as Lungi Ngidi's replacement
Notably, Ngidi, who has featured in 14 IPL matches and has snared 25 wickets, has been ruled out of the 17th season of the IPL owing to injury. His last competitive match was on February 2, playing for the Paarl Royals in the SA20 league. Talking about Fraser-McGurk, he has played just two ODIs for Australia and will link up with Delhi Capitals for his base price of INR 50 Lakhs.
Fraser-McGurk's track record
Earlier, 21-year-old McGurk was reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Harry Brook, who pulled out of the IPL 2024 citing personal reason. Renowned for his aggressive strokeplay, Fraser-McGurk holds the record for the fastest List A century, surpassing the legendary AB de Villiers by scoring a hundred in just 29 balls. He maintained his impressive form in the Big Bash League (BBL) and recently made his ODI debut for Australia, catching everyone's attention with a quickfire 41 against the West Indies. In the recently concluded BBL season, Fraser-McGurk displayed impressive form for the Melbourne Renegades. He emerged as their highest run-scorer, amassing 257 runs in 8 innings with an average of 32.12 and a strike rate of 158.64.
Cricket icon and DC head coach, Ricky Ponting, sees immense potential in Fraser-McGurk, suggesting he could be the ‘X-factor’ the team needs.

However, it will be interesting to see whether McGurk will find a place in the DC's starting eleven. The Rishabh Pant-led DC team already boasts a strong batting lineup with established players like Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, and Shai Hope. The Capitals also have other valuable players like Anrich Nortje, Tristan Stubbs, and Jhye Richardson.
