Delhi Capitals have finally announced Lizaad Williams as Harry Brook's replacement amidst their lacklustre campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, England's superstar batter Harry Brook earlier pulled out of IPL 2024 due to personal reasons. However, DC have brought in South Africa's tearaway pacer Lizaad Williams as Brook's replacement to bolster their squad.

"Lizaad Williams, the South African fast bowler, has been signed by the Delhi Capitals as a replacement for England's Harry Brook for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2024," DC franchise said in a statement.

Lizaad Williams walks into DC squad as Harry Brook's replacement

Williams has been signed by the Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs. 50 Lakh. This fills the void left by Mitchell Marsh's injury. Williams brings experience to the team, having played in two Tests, four ODIs, and eleven T20Is for the Proteas. In contrast, Harry Brook, who was bought by the Delhi Capitals for a hefty Rs. 4 crore at last year's auction, will not be participating in IPL 2024.  He made the personal decision to be with his family during this difficult time following the passing of his grandmother.

Last year's IPL saw Harry Brook burst onto the scene with a dazzling century (100 runs in 55 balls) against Kolkata Knight Riders while playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, his performance fizzled out after that initial spark. Despite the franchise investing a significant ₹13.25 crore to secure his services, Brook could only manage a total of 190 runs in his 11 matches. His underwhelming performance extended beyond the IPL. Notably, Brook also withdrew from England's recent five-Test series in India, having initially participated in the pre-tour training camp held in the UAE.

Delhi Capitals' lacklustre show in IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals have had a torrid IPL 2024 campaign so far. After losing four out of their first five matches, they find themselves languishing at the bottom of the points table. Their struggles have been compounded by a poor Net Run Rate, which took a significant hit after conceding over 200 runs in their last two encounters. Both batting and bowling have been areas of concern for Delhi. They haven't been able to settle on a consistent playing eleven, and their bowling attack has been far from watertight. A key example is star pacer Anrich Nortje, who returned to the IPL after a long injury layoff.  Despite his reputation, he hasn't found his rhythm yet, conceding a costly 32 runs in the last over against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. In total, Nortje has leaked a worrying 215 runs in his four outings for the Capitals, with figures of 2 for 65 and 3 for 59. Delhi desperately needs both Nortje and the rest of the team to find their form if they are to salvage their IPL 2024 campaign.
