Delhi Capitals (DC) have suffered a major blow with just over one week to go for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. DC’s English recruit Harry Brook has pulled out of the season citing personal reasons, as per a report by Cricbuzz

After getting released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after just one season, Brook was picked for Rs 4 crore by the franchise in the mini-auction after a short bidding war with Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Earlier, the English batter had pulled out of the five-Test series against India.

"The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space," the England Cricket Board (ECB) stated in a release in January 2024.

Brook not the only Englishman to pull out of IPL 2024

Brook is the fourth English player to pull out of IPL 2024. Earlier Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, and Jason Roy pulled out of IPL 2024 as well. Wood and Atkinson were in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad. They pulled out due to workload management. Roy who played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the previous season pulled out due to personal reasons.

England players withdrawing from IPL has not gone down well with franchises as it disrupts their plans and they have to look for replacements on short notice. DC are yet to make an official comment on Brook pulling out of the mega tournament.

Brook's debut IPL season

In the previous season, he was picked for Rs 13.25 crore by SRH. His only impressive performance was an unbeaten century. From 11 games, he managed to score 190 runs at an average of 21.11. His strike rate was 123.38.
