Dhruv Jurel wins hearts with special mention to James Anderson and Mark Wood after leading India to emphatic win over England in 4th Test
Dhruv Jurel gave a special mention to England's bowling maestros James Anderson and Mark Wood after propelling India to stunning win in fourth Test in Ranchi.
India rode on Dhruv Jurel's superlative batting efforts to beat England by five wickets in the fourth Test in Ranchi on February 26. Dhruv Jurel (39 not out) and Shubman Gill (52 not out) combined for a decisive 72-run partnership for the sixth wicket, enabling India to successfully chase down 192 on the fourth day of the fourth Test against England at the JSCA International Stadium. The day commenced with India at 40 without loss, advancing to 84 for no loss before facing setbacks from the English spin attack. Nevertheless, Jurel, following his impressive 90 in the first innings, and Gill stayed not out to secure a remarkable five-wicket victory for India. This win ensures India's series victory, taking an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.
The star wicketkeeper-batter was adjudged the Player of the Match for his exceptional knocks in both the innings.
Dhruv Jurel's heart-winning comment after India's win
After the match, Dhruv Jurel revealed his winning mantra which helped him focus on the game rather than being intimidated by England's star-studded bowling line-up.
"Whatever the situation demands, I want to do that. In our 1st innings, I thought the more runs I score now, the fewer runs we would have to in our 2nd innings. (First innings) Our wickets were falling, and I was batting with lower-order batters, but we got partnerships with them. So they deserve some credit too," Jurel said in the post-match presentation.
Jurel gave a special mention to England's bowling maestros James Anderson and Mark Wood after propelling India to stunning win in fourth Test in Ranchi. He admitted that he felt good playin against them and later followed it by saying his focus was on seeing the ball, not the bowler.
“Felt good playing against Anderson, Wood because I saw them on TV. Focus was on seeing the ball, not the bowler,” Jurel added.
Big boost for India in WTC Points table
Meanwhile, after the win, India consolidated their position on the World Test Championships (WTC) points table. While India remained stationed at the second position, Rohit Sharma's brigade extended their lead on third-placed Australia. In the 2023-25 WTC cycle, India have so far won five of their eight matches, losing just two matches in the process.
