Drama unfolds in BAN vs SL clash as 3rd umpire reverses decision despite clear spike to stun Sri Lankan players; watch video

The drama unfolded in the second T20I of the series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka when the third umpire reversed the on-field umpire's decision for caught behind despite a clear spike. Sri Lankan players and head coach Chris Silverwood were stunned along with the on-field umpire as they couldn’t believe how the decision was reversed, as there was a clear sound as well when the ball passed Soumya Sarkar's bat. 
 

The incident took place on the first ball of the fourth over of Bangladesh's run chase. Sarkar went for the pull shot but all he could manage was an inside edge off his bat and the ball went into Kusal Mendis' gloves. Sarkar reviewed the decision and when the ultraedge showed a spike he started walking towards the dressing room. 

However, the third umpire Masudur Rahman took a longer-than-usual look and concluded that the spike showed on the ultraedge when the ball had passed the bat. As he signalled not out, the on-field umpire Gazi Sohel had to reverse his decision which left Sri Lankan fielders stunned. Mendis, Angelo Matthews, and skipper Charith Asalanka had a lengthy animated discussion with the umpire as they could not believe the third umpire’s decision. Even Coach Silverwood was not happy and was seen having a discussion with the support staff. 
 

After a blazing start, Bangladesh register an easy win

Litton Das asked his opening partner to get back to business and face Fernando again. Sarkar was batting on 14 runs from nine deliveries when he got a reprieve. To rub salt in the wounds, he hit a boundary towards the fine leg. He hit another boundary in the 10-run over.

Das and Sarkar got Bangladesh off to a great start in the run chase of 166 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Matheesha Pathirana broke the partnership with the wicket of Sarkar. He scored 26 runs from 22 deliveries. Pathirana also dismissed Das who scored 36 runs from 24 balls. Later, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto's unbeaten 38-ball 53 and Towhid Hridoy's 32 not out off 25 balls took Bangladesh over the line with 11 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand.
