A viral video featuring a conversation between former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma and KKR's aissistant coach Abhishek Nayar has stirred a big controversy amidst the ongoing IPL 2024. In the clip, Rohit Sharma seems to have a lengthy conversation with Nayar, discussing what's happening in the MI camp after the change of leadership. The excerpt from the conversation also suggests that the IPL 2024 could be Rohit's last season.

Rohit Sharma's chat with Abhishek Nayar stirs controversy

The conversation, however, lacks clarity on whether Sharma is referring specifically to the IPL or his overall cricket career. However, the KKR deleted the video later which is now doing rounds on social media. KKR and MI are gearing to take on each other in their next IPL 2024 encounter at the Eden Gardens stadium on May 11.

In the clip, Sharma speaks candidly with Abhishek Nayar, expressing a sense of things being different within the MI camp and a period of transition. He describes the franchise as a place close to his heart, even using the word ‘temple’. Though the video doesn't explicitly mention retirement, Sharma's statement about this potentially being his last season has understandably grabbed attention.

Rohit Sharma's form a concern after MI captaincy change

Rohit Sharma's removal as Mumbai Indians captain ahead of the 2024 season was a contentious decision that stirred up fan unrest. The subsequent IPL season saw Hardik Pandya, the new captain, face the brunt of this discontent. He was repeatedly booed by fans and subjected to chants of "Rohit-Rohit." The team's performance also mirrored the turmoil, with Mumbai becoming the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race.

However, his current form, with only 330 runs in 12 IPL innings, raises concerns.

Rohit's dip in form, following his successful tenure as captain, leading MI to a record-tying five IPL titles, only matched by MS Dhoni's CSK, adds another layer of worry. With the T20 World Cup approaching, Sharma's lack of runs in the IPL could potentially impact the Indian team's performance.
