Watch: Ellyse Perry's massive six shatters 'Player of the series' car's glass as RCB dugout and Bengaluru crowd go bonkers
WPL 2024: The crowd at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium went berserk as RCB batter Ellyse Perry's massive hit shattered the 'player of the series' car.
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) star all-rounder Ellyse Perry’s massive six in the penultimate over of the innings smashed the glass of the 'Player of the Series' car on display at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
After reaching her half-century from 33 balls, Perry faced a dot ball. When Deepti Sharma tossed it up, Perry's eyes lit up and she hit the ball over the deep mid-wicket boundary for a six. The ball shattered the glass as players in RCB’s dugout and the crowd went bonkers. The Australian all-rounder also had her hand on the helmet as she saw the ball hit the car.
Mandhana hits WPL career-best 80
Earlier, UP Warriorz skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to field first. Perry walked in to bat at no.3 in the sixth over after Anjali Sarvani ended Sabbhineni Meghana's stay at the crease. She played second fiddle to RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana who reached her half-century from 34 balls. In the same over, Perry hit Grace Harris for the first six of her innings. After Mandhana departed for a 50-ball 80 in the 17th over, Perry took on Rajeshwari Gayakwad hitting her for two consecutive sixes.
RCB post a big total
After breaking the car’s window glass, she lost her wicket to England's left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone in the final over. Her 37-ball 58 featured four fours and as many sixes. This is her first half-century of the season. Richa Ghosh's 10-ball 21 cameo helped RCB post 198/3 on the board.
Oldest player in WPL
Earlier, Mandhana picked Ekta Bisht as Shreyanka Patil's replacement who missed the match due to a niggle. The 38-year-old Bisht became the oldest player in the history of WPL. Mandhana made a change in the batting order as well. Instead of opening with New Zealand’s Sophie Devine, she opened with Meghana and the move paid off.
Perry’s fighting knock against MI
In the previous clash against Mumbai Indians (MI), Perry contributed with an unbeaten 38-ball 44 to help RCB post 131/6. MI won the match by seven wickets and 29 balls to spare. Later, Mandhana revealed that Perry was not 100 per cent fit in the match.
