Watch: Emotional Rahul Tripathi sits and cries on stairs of dressing room after mix-up with Abdul Samad leads to his run out

As Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost their destructive in-form openers in the first two overs, Rahul Tripathi kept the run rate up in the first few overs. When KKR were four wickets down in the powerplay overs, Tripathi did some damage control against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers who had their tails up. He scored a crucial half-century but his knock came to an end with an unfortunate run out. After the dismissal, he got emotional on the dressing room stairs and hid his face.
 

In the 14th over, Abdul Samad played a shot towards backward point. Samad ran for a quick single whereas Tripathi was ball watching. As Russell recovered quickly and threw the ball towards wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Samad had crossed Tripathi and the latter could not make his ground.

After Tripathi got out attempting a non-existent single, he walked out of the ground and sat on stairs. The photo of a dejected Tripathi has been making rounds on the social media. Earlier, Tripathi shared a 62-run partnership for the fifth wicket with wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen. This was his 12th Indian Premier League (IPL) fifty. He scored 55 runs from 35 balls including seven fours and a six.

Tripathi gets commentators’ sympathy

Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator, Sunil Gavaskar blamed Samad for the wicket as he said, "Totally Samad's fault. Tripathi was backing up alright. There was no run in it. The ball was stopped. Unnecessary wicket… at the wrong time for Sunrisers."
 

Commentator Ian Bishop was disappointed to see Tripathi on the stairs as he said, "I don't think I have ever seen that sort of posture openly from a dismissed batsman. He had just cleared the boundary before."

Another collapse for SRH

After Tripathi's wicket, SRH suffered another collapse. On the next delivery, impact player Sanvir Singh got bowled for a golden duck. Samad could not do much damage with the bat and lost his wicket to Harshit Rana for a 12-ball 16. Varun Chakaravarthy then dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a four-ball duck. 
 

SRH lost nine wickets for 126 in the 16th over. Skipper Pat Cummins’ 24-ball 30 helped SRH post 159 on the board. They got bowled out with three balls left in the innings.
