ENG vs WI: Jamie Smith's 95, Joe Root's 87 power England to commanding position on Day 2 of 3rd Test against West Indies

England took a big step towards victory in the third Test against West Indies, thanks to a brilliant knocks from Jamie Smith and Joe Root. The young batting sensation Smith scored a dazzling 95, helping England reach 376 in response to West Indies' first innings total of 282. At the end of Day 2, West Indies were reeling at 33/2, trailing by 61 runs. 

West Indies made a strong start to their second innings, dismissing Ollie Pope and Harry Brook early on. However, Joe Root and Ben Stokes steadied the ship with a crucial partnership. Smith then took the game away from the West Indies with a blistering innings, supported by Chris Woakes.

England ended the day in a strong position, with West Indies losing two early wickets and trailing by 61 runs. However, a dropped catch by Ben Stokes allowed West Indies opener Mikyle Louis to survive, adding a touch of uncertainty to the match.

The former England captain surpassed Brian Lara's record for Test runs during the innings, highlighting his consistent brilliance. Root surpassed Lara's tally of 11,953 runs to become the seventh-highest run scorer in Test history. Ultimately, he fell short of a century but remains on course to break numerous batting records.
