Defending champions England’s T20 World Cup 2024 opening clash against Scotland ended in no result at Kensington Oval, Barbados. Incessant rain led to England and Scotland sharing one point each in the Group B clash. However, Scotland had positives to take from the game as English bowlers failed to take a wicket in 10 overs.

Ideal start in powerplay overs

Earlier, rain delayed the coin toss. Scotland captain Richie Berrington won the toss and opted to bat first. Mark Wood opened the bowling for England and conceded six runs in the first over including a boundary off George Munsey's bat. Jofra Archer started with a 10-run over against Michael Jones. Jos Buttler introduced Moeen Ali into the attack. Left-handed batter Munsey hit him for two fours. Archer and Wood came back well to bowl two economical overs. In the sixth over, Jones hit Chris Jordan for a massive six that damaged the solar panel. He followed it up with two fours. Scotland were 49 for no loss after powerplay overs.

Decent score in rain-curtailed encounter

In the seventh over, rain played spoilsport. After a long interruption, overs were deducted. It was supposed to be a 10 overs per side encounter. In the eighth over, Adil Rashid took a beating. Both openers hit a six each in the 18-run over. In the penultimate over, Jordan was brought back into the attack. Munsey hit him for a six in the 10-run over. Buttler trusted Rashid to bowl the final over despite an expensive first over. He bowled well but Jones finished the innings with a boundary. Scotland posted 90 for no loss in 10 overs.

The unbeaten 90-run partnership is Scotland's second-highest in T20 World Cups. Munsey scored 41 runs from 31 balls including fours fours and two sixes. On the other end, Jones smashed four fours and two sixes as well in his 30-ball 45.
