Not Kohli, Rohit, England coach has special strategy in place for this India star for T20 World Cup semifinal, says 'we can nullify his influence...'

England will have a task cut out in the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal against India on June 27. England's head coach, Matthew Mott, has acknowledged the threat posed by India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Mott recognises Bumrah's current form and his ability to dismantle batting lineups. He emphasised the importance of neutralising Bumrah's impact on the game. However, Mott also admitted that there's no easy solution. England's strategy seems to be two-pronged. Firstly, they'll take calculated risks against Bumrah, hoping to minimize his effectiveness. Secondly, they'll capitalize on any potential off-day Bumrah might have. Notably, Bumrah has so far taken 11 wickets from 6 matches with a stunning economy rate of 4.08.

Mott seems confident in his batsmen's ability to handle Bumrah's bowling. However, he stresses the importance of playing smart cricket and exploiting any weaknesses Bumrah might show during the match.

“He’ll be a big part of our planning, any way we can nullify his influence on the game will go a long way. That’s something we’ve done well, taking our medicine against certain bowlers and then doubling down at the other end. There will be players who think they can take him, and times where we have to box clever. I don’t see too many flaws but hopefully, he has one of those off days that any bowler can have and we can capitalise on that,” Matthew Mott was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

He's specifically focused on Team India's captain, Rohit Sharma, and his well-known style of playing with both confidence and aggression during the powerplay. While this aggressive style can set the tone for the Indian team, Mott believes it also creates an opportunity for England's bowlers. Mott highlights the importance of taking wickets early on, specifically targeting Sharma, to disrupt India's momentum in the crucial semi-final match. He acknowledges England's past success in overcoming challenges, but for this match, he wants them to seize control from the very beginning.

“They definitely come out a lot harder in the powerplay with the bat. The way Rohit has led from the front is quite obvious for everyone to see. But that also presents a unique opportunity for our bowling attack to take early wickets. We’ve had to play most of this tournament from behind and with adversity. We’d love to throw that first punch, get in front and really hammer that home,” Mott concluded.

 

India have been dominant throughout the tournament, boasting an undefeated record. They've won all six of their matches, with only a group stage fixture against Canada being washed out. In contrast, England have faced some challenges. They had to overcome setbacks in both the group stages and the Super 8 stages to reach the semi-finals.
