England players to go on break to recover from brutal India hammering in 4th Test, won’t travel to Abu Dhabi but these 2 Indian cities

Ahead of the climactic fifth and final Test against India, set to commence on March 7 in Dharamsala, members of the England Test cricket team are taking a strategic one-week break, dividing their time between Chandigarh and Bengaluru. This decision comes in the wake of the team facing a decisive setback in the series, trailing 1-3 after a five-wicket loss in the fourth Test.

"The squad will be split across Chandigarh and Bengaluru before the fifth Test. They are unlikely to hit the nets during the break. The squad arrives in Dharamsala about three days before the Test (March 4)," PTI quoted an ECB source as saying.

England players had trained in Abu Dhabi

During a previous extended interval between the second and third Tests, the entire England squad had opted to regroup and unwind in Abu Dhabi, utilising the time not just for relaxation but also for intensive training sessions. This preparation in Abu Dhabi marked the beginning of their journey to India for the series, which kicked off on January 25.

For the upcoming break, however, the players have selected the cities of Chandigarh and Bengaluru as their destinations for downtime and possibly, further training ahead of the final showdown in Dharamsala. These locations offer a mix of conducive environments for both relaxation and cricket practice facilities that will aid in their preparation.

This series marks the first significant challenge to the 'Bazball' approach under Ben Stokes' captaincy, indicating a pivotal moment for the team. The forthcoming Test in Dharamsala presents the England squad with an opportunity to refine their strategies and aim for a positive end to the series.

Important World Test Championship points up for grabs

After the win, India consolidated their position on the World Test Championships (WTC) points table. While India remained stationed at the second position, Rohit Sharma's brigade extended their lead on third-placed Australia. In the 2023-25 WTC cycle, India have so far won five of their eight matches, losing just two matches in the process.  

England, on the flip side, are stationed in the 8th place in the standings and Stokes' men would be desperate for a win in Dharamsala to improve their position in the standings.
