Australia's one of the most successful captains Pat Cummins picked the ODI World Cup 2023 as one of the most difficult wins of his career. Cummins led Australia to two ICC titles in a year where they beat India in both finals. Australia's star bowler is currently leading Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). He guided his team to the final where they will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at M.A. Chidambaram (Chepauk) Stadium in Chennai.

In the exclusive conversation with Sports Tak Cummins picked ODI World Cup 2024 as the difficult win because there were a lot of teams involved in the tournament.

“I'd say the, you know, the ODI World Cup, it's, it's, you've got to basically beat every other team. We're playing Indian conditions, which are quite foreign to us in Australia. You know, we had injuries, we had, yeah, injuries to deal with, form to deal with along the way. So there's lots of kind of things that had to come together and fortunately, they all came together for the final. And I think that's what makes it so satisfying as well. It's not easy” said Pat Cummins.

While asked about the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 Cummins reckoned that they are one of the better sides, interestingly after Mitchell Marsh will lead the side in the marquee event  in the USA and West Indies.

“Not sure we're favourites. I think we're one of the better sides. We've got pretty good form coming in. We've got some really experienced players and it's a pretty similar squad to the guys who won the title two years ago, three years ago. So yeah, confident, but it's T20 cricket. Anything can happen. So we'll give it our best crack” added Cummins.

Cummins also opened up on why there were not a lot of fans at the airport to welcome them after they won the ODI World Cup 2024 beating India at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

“Yeah, that's Australia for you. It's great. It's peaceful. You know, it's, it is a little bit different because everyone flies off to different states. We didn't have one kind of big celebration upon arrival back into Australia, but I can tell you that, you know, everyone was buzzing every time we went out in the streets or, you know, out for a coffee or whatever for the next couple of weeks, everyone was absolutely buzzing about that World Cup final as were we players. So Yeah, it might not be the streets line like maybe you'd get over here if India won, but I can tell you that a lot of fans were very happy” Cummins concluded.

Australia will now feature in the T20 World Cup 2024 where they will face Oman in their opener clash on June 6 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
