Former business associates of MS Dhoni arrested for Rs 16 crore fraud; check more details here

MS Dhoni claimed that his former partners failed to fulfill their contractual agreement to launch cricket academies under his name, leading to a financial loss of approximately Rs 16 crore.

Former business associates of MS Dhoni, Mihir Diwakar and Soumya Das have been detained following accusations by the ex-India captain of a Rs 16 crore fraud. Diwakar, who serves as the director of Aarka Sports Management Pvt Ltd, was apprehended in Noida, while Das was taken into custody in Jaipur. Dhoni claimed that his former partners failed to fulfill their contractual agreement to launch cricket academies under his name, leading to a financial loss of approximately Rs 16 crore.

Despite Dhoni withdrawing his permission for the use of his name, they reportedly continued to do so, prompting Dhoni to lodge a criminal complaint against them.

Lawsuits filed against 3 parties

MS Dhoni initiated a criminal lawsuit citing violations under Sections 406, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the appropriate court at the District Court Ranchi. The lawsuit targets 1. Aarka Sports Management Pvt Ltd, 2. Mihir Diwakar, Director, and 3. Soumya Das, Director of Aarka Sports Management Pvt Ltd.

Despite MS Dhoni withdrawing his consent on August 15, 2021, Mihir Diwakar continued to establish numerous cricket academies both in India and internationally, leveraging the former Indian captain’s name. Additionally, he collected franchise fees under the banners of MS Dhoni Cricket Academy and MS Dhoni Sports Academy.

Meanwhile, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter Dhoni is currently plying his trade in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni is representing the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) only as a wicketkeeper-batter as he stepped down from the captaincy just ahead of the start of the tournament.

In five matches Dhoni has played in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich tournament so far, the muscular batter has scored 39 runs at a strike rate of 185.71. The right-handed batter has smashed four fours and three sixes. As a wicket-keeper, Dhoni has taken four catches.
