Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Gautam Gambhir in his maiden season as their mentor helped the franchise end their Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy drought. Shreyas Iyer-led side beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on May 26.

Gambhir was ecstatic with KKR’s win as he lifted all-rounder Sunil Narine and smiled with him. KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan also embraced him and kissed him on the forehead as he walked out for the victory lap.

After the win, Gambhir took to X to and shared an inspirational quote from Mahabharata.

“jiski mati aur gati satya kei ho, uska rath aaj bhi shree krishna chalate hain Whose thoughts and actions are based on truth, His chariot is still driven by Shri Krishna)”.

After the comprehensive win, Nitish Rana recalled the motivation reply he got Gambhir when he was announced as KKR's mentor. He had messaged Gambhir as he heard about his appointment. The former Indian opener’s reply stayed with him.

"I want to share one short story that when GG bhaiya (Gambhir) was named the mentor, I sent him a long message as I was really happy. But he replied saying, 'Thank you but I would be happy if we stand at the podium with the trophy in our hands'. Today is that day and I will never forget that message," Rana told broadcasters after KKR's title triumph.
