The Gujarat Titans (GT) have announced Gurnoor Brar as Sushant Mishra's replacement for the rest of IPL 2024 season. Gurnoor will bolster GT's bowling attack after the Jharkhand's left-arm pacer unexpectedly ruled out of the ongoing IPL. This move comes just a day after GT's morale-boosting victory against the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings.

The official IPL press release confirmed that Gurnoor was acquired for his base price of Rs 20 lakh. However, the specific reason behind Sushant Mishra's replacement with Brar remains undisclosed by the Gujarat Titans. The reasoning behind Sushant Mishra's absence for the remainder of the IPL season remains unclear. The young left-arm pacer from Jharkhand, despite being part of the Gujarat Titans squad, hasn't featured in a single IPL 2024 match. This was his first time being included in the IPL competition.

"Gujarat Titans have signed fast bowler Gurnoor Singh Brar as a replacement for Sushant Mishra for the remainder of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024," stated the IPL release.

"Gurnoor has represented Punjab in domestic cricket in five First-Class and one List A match. In 2023, he played a solitary match for the Punjab Kings in the Tata IPL. He signs in for his reserve price of INR 50 lakhs," it added.

Gurnoor Brar is a promising young fast bowler who has caught the eye of the Gujarat Titans. Hailing from Punjab's cricket scene, Brar has experience in the first-class arena, having played in five matches. He's also appeared in a List-A game and even had a taste of the IPL with a single match for the Punjab Kings last year.

The Gujarat Titans secured a vital 35-run victory against the Chennai Super Kings on May 10, thanks to brilliant centuries from Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. This win keeps their playoff hopes mathematically alive. However, despite the recent win, Gujarat Titans' overall performance in IPL 2024 hasn't been their strongest. They currently face an uphill battle to reach the knockout stages, especially considering they haven't replicated the success of their impressive debut season in 2022 (champions) and runner-up finish in 2023. The departure of Hardik Pandya and the appointment of a new captain in Shubman Gill might be contributing factors to their current situation. While Gill has shown glimpses of brilliance, the team hasn't quite found its rhythm yet this season.
