Harris' whirlwind 60 leads UP Warriorz to easy 6-wicket win on Athapathtu's WPL debut as Gujarat Giants suffer 3rd loss in a row

Women's Premier League 2024: UP Warriorz thrashed Gujarat Giants to register their second win of the tournament. Chamari Athapaththu showed flashes of brilliance on her WPL debut.

UP Warriorz registered their second win of Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 as they chased down the target of 143 with 26 balls to spare. Grace Harris starred with an unbeaten 33-ball 60 as Gujarat Giants suffered their third loss in a row
 

Gujarat Giants post a modest total

UP Warroriz skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to field first. Laura Wolvaardt targetted Anjali Sarvani in her first over hitting three fours in a row. In the fifth over, her catch was dropped by Harris. Sophie Ecclestone got the breakthrough with skipper Beth Mooney's (16) wicket in the sixth over. Harleen Deol struggled to find boundaries. Ecclestone struck again to dismiss Wolvaardt who scored 28 runs from 26 balls. Deol's stay was ended by Rajeshwari Gaekward. She scored 18 runs from 24 balls. 

In the 15th over, Phoebe Litchfield's catch was dropped off Ecclestone's bowling. Ashleigh Gardner hit Harris for a maximum in the 16th over. In the 18th over, Deepti Sharma conceded 19 runs. In the penultimate over, Ecclestone ended Gardner's cameo. She scored 30 runs from 17 overs. Litchfield was then run out after she scored 35 runs from 26 balls. In the final over, debutant Chamari Athapaththu did not concede a single boundary. Gujarat Giants posted 142/5.

Harris takes UP Warriorz home after Healy blitz

In the run chase, skipper Healy did the bulk of the scoring in the powerplay overs. She hit Meghna Singh for fours in the third over. In the fifth over, Tanuja Kanwar dismissed Kiran Navgire. The opener scored 12 runs from eight balls. In the next over, Healy got bowled by Kathryn Bryce. She scored 33 runs from 21 balls including seven fours. Harris ended the powerplay overs with two boundaries.

She took on Mannat Kashyap and hit her for two fours and a six. Athapaththu (17) hit four boundaries before losing her wicket to Kanwar. Meghna returned to dismiss Shweta Sehrawat. Harris continued to attack. Deepti joined her too with two fours off Gardner in the 14th over. In the penultimate over, Harris reached her half-century from 30 balls. In the next over, she hit the winning runs as UP Warriorz won by six wickets with 26 balls to spare. Deepti remained unbeaten for 14-ball 17.
