Have USA dented Pakistan's Super 8 qualification? Here's how Babar Azam-led side is dependent on Rohit Sharma's Team India

Babar Azam-led side suffered an embarrassing loss against Monank Patel's United States in match 11 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which was being played at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, on June 6 (Thursday). The match went to the super over where the USA edged the Men in Green in a thrilling contest. This was also the second super over of this season and it was concluded by a historic upset from the host nation. However, this loss has dented Men in Green's qualification scenario and they are more dependent on Team India.

How is Pakistan dependent on Team India?

United States have picked two consecutive wins and are currently on top of the Group A table. They are followed by India who have one win after their clash against Ireland. The rest of the teams, Pakistan, Canada, and Ireland are yet to open their account. Pakistan will be taking on India in their next clash in New York, on June 9. If they lose this match as well, that would most likely be the end of the road for them in the mega tournament this year.

However, a win over India would keep them in the race and then they would hope that the Men in Blue lose their game against USA as well. However, as per current scenarios, the USA is most likely gonna be the favourite in their clash against Ireland as well and their biggest block yet would be Rohit Sharma and company. If India lose to Pakistan but win the rest of the games, it will again come down to the net run rate. Currently, stating on the basis of Pakistan's recent run, India is expected to pick up a win.

Babar Azam on loss against USA

Pakistan captain Babar Azam was highly disappointed with his team and said that they were outclassed in all departments be it batting, bowling, or fielding. He praised USA for their performance and said they failed to assess the conditions.

“First 6 overs while batting we didn’t capitalise. Back-to-back wickets always put you on the back foot, as a batter you need to step up and build partnerships. We were not up to the mark in the first 6 overs with the ball. Our spinners also did not take wickets in the middle overs so these things cost us. Very hard, all credit to USA, they played better than us in all three departments. Little bit of moisture in the pitch, it was also two-paced. As a professional, you need to assess the conditions,” said Babar in the post-match presentation.
