Charity : 'Hitman' Rohit Sharma 'superhit' when it comes to helping the needy; know everything about his charities to conserve endangered species and marine life

Indian captain Rohit Sharma made big contribution to relief funds during the testing times of Covid-19 pandemic. He has been vocal about saving the rhinos from poachers as well.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is in twilight period of his career at the international stage. He made an emphatic debut in T20 World Cup 2007. Struggled for a place in the first few years, Rohit never looked back since his promotion as opener in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. The same happened when he was given the role in Test format too. He led Mumbai Indians to five Indian Premier League (IPL) title wins. While Rohit has yet to win an ICC trophy as captain across formats, he has been helping the needy in the past few years. Be it donating during Covid-19 pandemic or to the care of stray animals or conservation of animals, the ‘Hitman’ has been associated with welfare and charitable works in every possible way.
 

Rohit’s contribution to relief funds

Rohit had helped wholeheartedly in the difficult times of Covid-19. In the year 2020, he had donated a total of Rs 80 lakh to different causes. Rohit donated Rs 40 lakh to PM Cares Fund. He gave Rs 25 lakh to Maharashtra CM Relief Fund as well. In addition, he gave Rs 5 lakh each to Maharashtra Police and to an an NGO. Rohit donated Rs 5 lakh for providing shelter for stray dogs.

Rohit's work for welfare of animals

In February 2015, he joined hands with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and supported the sterilisation of stray dogs and cats. In September 2015, he joined the campaign against hunting of wild animals in Africa. Hollywood actors Matt LeBlanc and Salma Hayek also joined him. Since then he has been associated with the protection of rhinos. In November 2017, Rohit had joined hands with an online store and promised that if they sell goods with his name and jersey number written on them, then all the earnings would go for the welfare of animals.

Rohit’s drive to conserve marine life

In the year 2018, Rohit was appointed brand ambassador by the World Wide Fund for Nature on the occasion of World Rhino Day. Since then, he has been the face of the campaign to save rhinos. Similarly, he has been working for several years to remove plastic from the sea and make the life of sea creatures easier. He launched merchandise in collaboration with Adidas to spread awareness. He visited the beach and helped clean the plastic waste urging people to take similar steps.
