East Delhi Riders' batter Mayank Rawat who smashed five consecutive sixes in the final of Delhi Premier League 2024 against South Delhi Superstarz revealed that he smashed six sixes in the IPL 2022 trial but despite that he was unable to get picked by any franchise.
Mayank Rawat smashed five sixes on Delhi Superstarz captain Ayush Badoni when he came to bowl the last over of the first innings which helped East Delhi to win the maiden title of DPL. In the exclusive interview with Sports Today, Rawat said that it was very challenging for him to not get picked by any IPL franchise despite his performance in the trials.
“I hit 6 on 6 balls in that trial. But I didn't get picked in that trial. So it was challenging for me. It looked like I was struggling. But I didn't give up. I tried to do my best. So that's what I'm doing. I want to play as a team player, not as a selfish. I have always played as a team player since I was a kid. I used to play in Balwant Cricket Academy. My coach is Mr. Nagar. I have always tried to be a good team player. I have never thought of becoming selfish or making my own” Rawat told Sports Today.
While asked about choosing between red-ball cricket and T20 leagues the young batter said he wants to represent Delhi in the Ranji Trophy.
"I feel like playing red ball for Delhi, playing the Ranji Trophy. I want a long career in the Ranji Trophy because I love playing red ball. T20 format is more common like IPL. I am more interested in that. But I also want to play more Red Ball Cricket" added Mayank Rawat
