'I don't really have an answer to that question and I don't make those decisions': Mitchell Marsh on lack of gap between IPL and T20 World Cup 2024

Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh stayed away from controversy when asked about the lack of gap between the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and T20 World Cup 2024. Many have questioned the lack of gap between the two tournaments. While England players left the tournament before playoffs stage, others stayed back and joined their respective sides in the USA and West Indies.

A few Australian players could not reach the Americas for the warm-up matches. As a result, the champions of 2021 edition had to field nine players in the warm-up games. National George Bailey and others in the Australian coaching staff fielded for Australia in the warm-up games.

“I don't really have an answer to that question and I don't make those decisions – so, as a group we're here to win. Things may look a little bit disjointed at the beginning and I think most teams are in the same boat with guys that are playing the IPL or coming out of the shop. But that's the nature of the beast of international cricket these days. We come from all over to tours and we'll get around each other the next few days and come together and kick off," Marsh said ahead of their first game in the World Cup.

Australia will kick off their campaign against Oman at Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 5.

Buttler says no to controversy too

Meanwhile, England captain Jos Buttler felt that there is not point in worrying too much. However, England players had left the IPL 2024 before the playoffs. They played in the four-T20I series against Pakistan.

"I think the cards are dealt, there's no point in trying to worry too much about that, just trying to deal with it as best you can. Obviously, we've been together for a little bit this series against Pakistan, so that's been helpful for us. But yeah, I think everyone's just really excited for the tournament. Getting here yesterday. Obviously arriving at the ground today, you see all the World Cup stuff everywhere. It's a great honor and privilege for everyone. And everyone's sort of bought in together in a pretty tight-knit units. So, we're excited for the first game," Buttler said.

England will go up against Scotland on June 4 in their first match of the tournament. Australia and England will lock horns in the high profile clash on June 8 in Barbados as well.
