After his lacklustre show in the IPL 2024, India skipper Rohit Sharma has set his sights on bigger goal, to lead help India clinch their first ICC trophy in 13 years in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to start from June 2 and will be jointly hosted by USA and West Indies.

Rohit Sharma has seen it all so far in world cricket, both as a player and now as a captain. He boasts a remarkable World Cup track record. Across eight T20 World Cups and three ODI World Cups, he has experienced both the elation of victory, claiming the coveted trophy in the 2007 T20 World Cup, and the disappointment of near misses in the 2015, 2016, and 2019 editions (all semi-final finishes) and the heartbreaking loss last year.

Certainly, Rohit will look to end his career on a high with a trophy at least in hand under his captaincy stint.

When asked about his leadership role, Rohit Sharma said:

"Captaining your country is the biggest honour that you can have, and for me, I have never thought that this would arrive where I'll be captaining one day. But yeah, people say 'Good things happen to Good people," he said on Dubai Eye 103.8."

Despite a long and successful career with the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma's captaincy stint at the national level began just a few years ago. While he's established himself as a highly decorated leader in the IPL, international cricket is yet to witness similar milestones under his captaincy. However, one constant remains – Rohit's unwavering dedication to prioritizing the team's success above all else.

"When I took over as India Captain, I just wanted everyone to drive in one direction that's how team sport should be played, it's not about personal milestones & personal stats & goals, it is about what all 11 of us can bring to the table & win the trophy," Rohit added.

The next 18 months will be a crucial period for Rohit, both as a leader and a player. Following the T20 World Cup 2024, India will embark on a challenging five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia later this year. 2025 holds another Champions Trophy alongside the highly anticipated World Test Championship final, assuming India qualifies. While the 2026 and 2027 World Cups are further down the road, the immediate focus is on regaining his form. Rohit's recent slump in IPL 2024 which saw his batting struggles where he scored mere 349 runs in 13 matches requires a turnaround to boost India's T20 World Cup title chances.

While opening up on the challengers he faced in his cricketing career, he said:

“I have seen more downs than ups in my life, and the human and person I am today is because of what I have seen in the past, and in the downs.”
