Former India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik reckons that Australia have the upper hand in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 which is scheduled to take place in Australia from November 22. Team India will play five Test matches on Australian soil to cement their spot for the World Test Championship final which is scheduled to take place in England from 11 to 15 June 2025, with 16 June available as a reserve day if required.

In the upcoming Australia tour, team India will look for their consecutive Test series win on Australian soil and if Men in Blue achieves to do so then they become the first-ever Asian team to register a Test series hattrick win against last edition's World Test Champions.

However, Karthik reckoned that it is going to be very hard for India to register a hat trick of win and if Rohit Sharma & Co. managed to achieve that then that would be one of the greatest things the Indian cricket team has ever achieved.

“I can’t tell the exact score line, but I do think Australia have the upper hand. It’s going to be very hard for India to beat them on Australian shores for the third time on the bounce. It’s no easy task. But if India do it, it will be one of the greatest things the Indian cricket team has ever achieved, no doubt about it,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz’s HeyCB with DK show.

Australia hasn't clinched a Test series against India since their 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory. In their last series in India (February-March 2023), India, led by Rohit Sharma, dominated the first two Tests, winning them inside three days each to take a 2-0 lead. Although Australia bounced back to win the third Test, they could only manage a draw in the fourth at the Narendra Modi Stadium, ultimately losing the series 1-2.

However, they found redemption in the 2023 World Test Championship final at The Oval from June 9 to 13. Under Pat Cummins' leadership, Australia triumphed over India, winning by 210 runs and securing their first major title against them since the series loss.
