'Will You Say It Is Gambhir's Fault If KKR Lose?': Ian Bishop fumes at fans for trolling Shreyas Iyer after KKR's 98-run win over LSG

After Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop pointed out how some fans unfairly credit KKR’s wins to Gautam Gambhir and blame Shreyas Iyer for losses. He slammed fans who criticised Iyer on his social media platforms. 

The Indian middle-order batter returned to KKR after a year. Iyer was forced to miss the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) season last year due to a back injury. In the ongoing IPL season, Iyer led the team to the top of the IPL points table with eight wins out of 11 games. They are almost qualified for the playoffs.

After KKR’s win against LSG, Bishop took to ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter) and said fans blamed Iyer for the loss and praised Gambhir for the team’s fortunes. 

He wrote, “So GG gets the praise when they win. Shreyas gets the blame if they lose? Or will you say its GG's fault to if they lose?”

He also wrote, “Any love for Shreyas Iyer????”

 

 

One fan responded, “Shreyas captained the same side in 2022 and we all know the results. Of course he's a decent captain but GG has much bigger impact to turn things around for this team.”

In the 54th match of the IPL, KKR thrashed LSG by 98 runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 5. Iyer scored 23 runs off 15 balls including three fours. However, he was left out of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad and hopes to bounce back in limited-overs cricket. Before the IP, he was dropped from the Indian Test side due to struggles in the longer format of the game.

 

Shreyas Iyer’s IPL 2024 Performance

KKR's skipper Iyer has scored 280 runs in 11 matches at an average of 35.00 and a strike rate of 138.61 including one half-century in the IPL 2024 so far.

 

Iyer will be in action when KKR will face Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 11 at the Eden Gardens stadium, Kolkata.
