ICC puts USA Cricket on notice after poorly conducted T20 World Cup 2024, may face 12-month suspension

USA Cricket has been given 12 months of time by the ICC to get their house in order under the monitoring of a Normalisation Committee.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) during their annual conference former a three-member committee to look into the poor conduct of T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA leg.
 

“The ICC Board confirmed that there will be a review into the delivery of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This will be overseen by three directors, Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo and Imran Khawaja who will report back to the Board later in the year,” the apex cricket board said in a media statement.
 

Noramlisation Committee set up

The ICC has put USA Cricket and Cricket Chile on formal notice. If USA Cricket fails to comply, it would lead to a suspension. 
 

“USA Cricket and Cricket Chile have been formally put on notice and have 12 months to rectify their current non-compliance with the ICC Membership Criteria. Neither Member is considered to have in place a fit-for-purpose detailed governance and administrative structure and systems.
 

“The ICC Americas office will work with Cricket Chile to support them in remedying their non-compliance. The Board agreed that a Normalisation Committee comprising of Board and Management representatives will be set up to oversee and monitor USA Cricket’s compliance roadmap and the ICC Board will reserve its right to suspend or expel the Member for continued non-compliance,” said the global body.

USA Cricket unstable

USA Cricket has 12 months to get their house in order. While there were reports that USA Cricket was way over-budget while hosting T20 World Cup 2024, the ICC said that it will be an overall review. The USA Cricket has been in chaos for the last few years with four CEOs getting terminated.

Earlier this month, two ICC officials -- Claire Furlong and Chris Tetley -- who were directly involved in conduct of T20 World Cup in Americas resigned. However, it was said that these resignations were given a few months earlier but they stayed till T20 World Cup 2024. Both of them attended ICC’s meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka. 
 

USA’s historic run in T20 World Cup

Despite several problems while hosting the league stage of T20 World Cup, USA on their debut in the tournament beat Pakistan to create history. They qualified for the Super 8 stage as well.
