ICC T20I Rankings: Yashasvi Jaiswal rises to 6th spot, Shubman Gill jumps 36 places to leave retired duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli behind

Ahead of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Indian openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal made massive gains in ICC T20I batter rankings.

India's stand-in T20I captain Shubman Gill made a giant leap in the ICC T20I batter rankings after a 4-1 win over Zimbabwe in the five-T20I series. Gill jumped 36 places to 37th position to leave India's recently retired duo Rohit Sharma (42nd) and Virat Kohli (51st) behind. Gill’s opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal climbed four places to claim the sixth spot after a good run in the T20I series.
 

Gill scored 170 runs from five innings at an average of 42.50 including two half-centuries and finished as the highest run-scorer. On the other hand, Jaiswal who was a part of the T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad scored 141 runs from three innings at an average of 70.50 including an unbeaten 93 in the successful run chase in the fourth T20I.
 

More changes in top 10

But Jaiswal's gain meant Ruturaj Gaikwad's loss. England captain Jos Buttler (7th), Gaikwad, West Indies' Brandon King (9th) and Johnson Charles (10th) and South Africa captain Aiden Markram (11th) slipped one place each. Another change in the top 10 was Phil Salt who moved to second position alongside Suryakumar Yadav with same rating points. The top spot is occupied by Australian opener Travis Head.

Indian leggies and pacers slip several positions

In the ICC T20I bowler rankings, India's spin all-rounder Axar Patel took a hit as he slipped to 13th place. West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph, South Africa leggie Tabraiz Shamsi and Caribbean off-spinner Gudakesh Motie rose two spots each to 10th, 11th and 12th place respectively. India's left-arm chinaman bowler and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi slipped four places each to 16th and 19th spots.

Pakistan left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi, New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, South Africa left-arm spinner rose three places each to 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th respectively. England's left-arm pacer Reece Topley entered the top 20 too by climbing two spots. The top spot still belongs to England leg-spinner Adil Rashid.
 

Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh slipped several places too. Jasprit Bumrah climbed down seven places to 21st spot despite being the 'Player of the tournament' in T20 World Cup 2024. Arshdeep, who was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament slipped five places to 23rd position.
 

The Indian leggies Axar, Kuldeep and Bishnoi along with Arshdeep will have a chance to move up in the rankings in the upcoming three-T20I series against Sri Lanka starting July 27. 

 

Pandya slips in all-rounder rankings

Hardik Pandya, India's game-changer in T20 World Cup 2024 final, slipped four places to sixth spot. As a result, Australia's Marcus Stoinis (2nd), Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza (3rd), Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan (4th) and Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi (5th) moved one spot each.
