'I'm a different beast when there's some turn': RCB’s Shreyanka Patil after causing Delhi Capitals’ collapse with 4 for 12 in WPL 2024 final
WPL 2024 final: RCB off-spinner Shreyanka Patil capitalised as Delhi Capitals suffered a batting collapse to bowl them out for a below par 113.
From 64 for no loss, Delhi Capitals (DC) were bowled out for 113 in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 final by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowlers. RCB spinners accounted for nine out of 10 wickets. While Sophie Molineux brought RCB back in the game with a three-wicket over, Shreyanka Patil helped them dominate the proceedings with a four-wicket haul from just 3.3 overs.
The right-arm off-spinner said there was assistance from the pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. She went on to say that she is a ‘different beast’ when it comes to turning tracks.
“I really enjoyed bowling in the middle. They got a really good start. We kept saying it was matter of one wicket. And when it fell, we said okay another one. We kept fighting till the end. Enjoyed each and every moment so far. There is something in the wicket. I'm a different beast when there's some turn,” she said in the break between the two innings.
Patil was introduced in the ninth over of the innings. She conceded just four runs to put pressure on DC skipper Meg Lanning and Marizanne Kapp. In the next over, she deceived Lanning and dismissed her lbw for a run-a-ball 23. With Lanning departing, DC were in deep trouble and Asha Sobhana capitalised with the wickets of Kapp and Jess Jonassen in the 14th over. Patil then helped RCB mop up the tail quickly with nine balls to spare.
The 21-year-old missed a couple of games due to a hairline fracture. She thanked the physios for her return and lauded Australian teammate Molineux.
“Playing against MI, I just got a little hairline fracture (on left hand). I missed two matches unfortunately, but credit to physios to put me back on the field. When I saw her, it was amazing to watch her bowl in the nets only,” the youngster added.
