Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim continued his stellar run with the ball and became the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Pakistan Super League (PSL) final. Wasim wrecked Multan Sultans’ batting lineup at National Stadium, Karachi on March 18 to restrict their score to 159/9.

After completing his spell in the 17th over, Wasim went off the ground. In the next over bowled by Naseem Shah, the camera showed Wasim smoking a cigarette in the dressing room. He immediately put it down as he realised that the camera was on him.

Wasim – the wrecker in chief

Wasim opened the bowling from the other end. He was hit for a boundary by Yasir Khan. On the third ball, he dismissed the opener. He was hit for a six by David Willey. The left-arm spinner followed it up with an arm ball and Willey got bowled in an attempt to play it square the wicket.

He was brought back into the attack in the 12th over. Johnson Charles became his third wicket as he went for a sweep but failed to hit it in the middle of the bat. In his last over, he struck twice to dismiss Khushdil Shah and Chris Jordan. He conceded 23 runs from his quota of four overs and picked up a fifer.

Wasim breaks Afridi’s record

Before Wasim, Shaheen Afridi held the record for best bowling figures in a PSL final. In the previous season, he picked up four wickets for 51 runs.

Wasim keeps the target below par

“Feels really good, as a bowling unit we did really well. I think they are 20-25 runs short, this is a really good wicket to bat. I bowled a bit slower today, and that helped. This is a final but I want to take it just like any other game. We play cricket day in, day out, so we don't need to do anything fancy. It is an under par total, they did really well with Iftikhar but we’ll fancy chasing 160,” Wasim told the broadcasters during the innings break.
