'In last 15 years, first time I saw him...': Virat Kohli reveals Rohit Sharma's state of mind after winning T20 World Cup title

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had a fairytale end to their T20I career as they announced retirement from the shortest format immediately after lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 title by beating South Africa in the thrilling final on July 4. The duo played a key role in leading India to the T20 World Cup triumph. While Kohli scored a match-winning knock in the final against South Africa to be adjudged the Player of the match, Rohit Sharma remained the leading scorer for India in the tournament. India finally ended their 11-year-long ICC trophy drought after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title. Certainly, this title meant a lot for India's batting maestros Kohli and Rohit. As senior members of the team, they had shouldered the burden of expectation for years. The past year had seen them reach a grueling three ICC event finals, only to fall short each time. These near misses undoubtedly left a mark, but this triumph finally heals those old wounds.

During India's felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede stadium, Virat Kohli revealed Rohit Sharma's state of mind after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

"We have been playing for the last 15 years, this is the first time, I see Rohit so emotional - he was crying, I was crying, a huge between both of us - I will never forget that day," Kohli said.

Kohli also didn't restrain from heaping praise on Jasprit Bumrah, who also remained the key architest in India's T20 World Cup title triumph. Kohli termed Bumrah once in a generation bowler.

"I need to applaud a guy, who brought us back to the game, again, again, again and please, a huge cheer for "Bumrah". Bumrah is a once in a generation bowler, we are lucky that he play for us," Kohli said.
