IND vs BAN: In-form Mushfiqur Rahim chases Sachin Tendulkar's this record in two-Test series against India
Bangladesh's 37-year-old Mushfiqur Rahim may achieve a few personal milestones during the two-Test series against India commencing in Chennai on September 19.
Bangladesh’s veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim has a chance to break legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record in the upcoming two-Test series against India starting September 19. Mushfiqur needs 217 runs break Tendulkar's record for most runs in Test matches played between Bangladesh and India.
Tendulkar scored 820 runs from nine innings at an average of 136.66. He has five centuries to his name against Bangladesh including his high score of unbeaten 248 in the format.
Mushfiqur is on the second spot with 604 runs from 15 innings at an average of 43.14 including two centuries and two half-centuries.
If he breaks Tendulkar's record, he will also become the second-highest Asian run-scorer on Indian soil in the format. He will surpass Pakistan's Younis Khan who has 768 runs from 12 innings. The top spot belongs to Pakistan's Javed Miandad who has 948 runs from 21 innings in India.
Rahim also needs 108 more runs to become first Bangladesh batter to score 6,000 runs in Test cricket. The 37-year-old has scored 5,892 runs from 90 Tests averaging 39.01 including 11 centuries and 27 fifties.
Mushfiqur has been in good form of late. In Bangladesh's historic first Test win over Pakistan, he won the 'Player of the match' award for a 191-run knock. He registered a single-digit score in the first innings of second Test but scored an unbeaten 22 in the run chase as Bangladesh completed series cleansweep in Rawalpindi.
Mushfiqur’s record on Indian soil
The first time Bangladesh toured India for a Test, Mushfiqur was captain. He scored 127 in the first innings of the one-off Test in Hyderabad. Bangladesh lost the Test by 208 runs.
In Bangladesh's tour of India in 2019, he was the second-highest run-scorer behind Indian opener Mayank Agarwal. Mushfiqur scored 181 runs from four innings including two fifties. Bangladesh lost both the Test by an innings.
